We would like to welcome everyone to the Region VI (North Central) annual conference held on February 13, 2016 at Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. With this year's conference theme, "Breaking the Silence," we will address important issues facing the APIA community as well as cultural barriers or beliefs that contribute to the health disparities we see today. Through this year’s regional conference, we hope to provide knowledge on how to become vocal advocates, ignite conversations between fellow healthcare professionals in training, and challenge attendees to translate this knowledge into action. Though it is easy to be consumed by our work in the classroom and the clinic, it is also important to recognize the privilege we have to engage with our communities and advocate for improving APIA health disparities.

We are excited to announce our fantastic line up of speakers who will be sharing their wisdom and experiences as APIA leaders. During our panel, we hope to discuss the unique health disparities that specific APIA communities face. In order to be effective advocates in our communities, we must be well versed on these health issues. We hope to provide an introduction to these issues through the breakout sessions where speakers will discuss their research on specific health disparities.

Join us in this great opportunity to engage in discussions with APAMSA members from Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the conference!
